In 1994 Dr. Rains did extensive training in glaucoma, eye diseases and injuries to the eye where he had to take a state license test to become board certified to treat and manage diseases of the eye and facial areas surrounding the eye.  Dr. Rains is one of an elite group of optometrists in the state certified in this area.

Dr. Rains married his lovely high school sweetheart Wanda McCarty in 1987 and they have two smart and beautiful kids. Their daughter Erin is 17 and is an honor student at Ocean Springs High School and is on the cross country team.  Their son Kendall is 15 and is also an honor student at Ocean Springs High School where he plays on the LaCross team. Dr. Rains and his family live on the water and love to wakeboard and waterski. Every year they plan a family vacation together. Dr. Rains enjoys watersports, bodybuilding, traveling and spending time with his family. Dr. Rains is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ocean Springs, Chamber of Commerce, Mississippi Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. In 1994, Dr. Rains actively and successfully lobbied at the state capitol to help broaden the scope of optometry in our state.  Because of this law, Mississippi optometrists are now certified to treat and manage diseases and injuries of the eye including Glaucoma.
